The digital transition is unfolding at a high pace. Technological, economic and societal developments are occurring in rapid succession and together give shape to our digital future. Consequently, it is vital for government and society to gain perspective on possible developments, to prepare for the future, and, where necessary and possible, to redirect developments. In view of this, the Dutch government has asked FreedomLab to develop an overview of the most important trends and developments in the digital transition leading up to 2030. To this end, we have conducted interviews and held interactive meetings with experts from both within and outside the Dutch government. As a result, our Outlook Digitalisation 2030 presents eleven key trends in digitalisation that we discuss in light of various policy themes such as economic opportunities and sustainability. Finally, the Outlook presents four scenarios for our digital future. In these scenarios, two questions are paramount: Which actors are leading in the digital transition? And will digitalisation contribute to our comprehensive wellbeing or will it merely serve economic growth?
